I’ve always been fascinated by modes of travel and locations where people from all walks of life intersect; train stations, airports, bus stops…any hub of transport. People coming, people going, chance encounters, and the relationships and/or memories these brief interactions spawn.

In February, I had the opportunity to shoot the lovely Shannon B. at Pier 59 Studios using K5600 HMIs. The softness of the Big Eye light was perfect mixed with high noon sunlight kicking in through the windows of the studio.

It was such a pleasure working with Theresa, who did a stunning job with fresh-faced runway inspired references I pulled for the shoot.

Many thanks to Gregger and Anthony at Pier 59!!

via ISO50

A slight departure from the fashion films I’ve been posting lately, but stunning and elegant nonetheless. LOVE the lush cinematography, beautiful coloring, and insanely well-designed typography in every frame.

All the feelings of novelty and exploration in a new country are so beautifully captured and is making want to book a plane ticket right now to relive those rare moments.

I also appreciate that they chose to make a longer spot instead of confining it to the traditional broadcast :30. As much as I respect the art form of telling a story within 900 frames, its nice to see longer form content done well, especially when you just want it to keep going…

A couple more:

In December, I got the opportunity to shoot the Spring 2011 campaign for Beverly-Hills-based luxury shoe line, <a href="http://www.danadavis.com"target="_blank">Dana Davis. Not only did production go smoothly from the my first meeting with Nancy, it was such a treat to work with my good friend Ms. Rizzi! I couldn’t have asked for a better team that day, from one of my favorite hair/makeup artists, Alexis, to talented stylist Ashley.

Our shoot at Pier 59 Studios West was such a blast – from rocking out on Ashley’s iPod playlist, to our delectable lunch from Bay Cities. The team at Pier 59 Studios was so friendly and accommodating with all my rentals (thanks Gregger and Anthony!) that I’m looking forward to going back.

Below are a few snapshots from the shoot. Feel free to holler with any questions about my lighting setup =)
